The National Hurricane Center has officially expanded coastal watches for Tropical Storm Isaias, extending a Storm Surge Watch as far south as Yankeetown, Florida. Yankeetown is located in southern Levy County, roughly 95 miles north of the Tampa Bay area.
Because this massive system is highly lopsided—with the vast majority of its severe weather pushed onto its eastern side—coastal impacts will stretch hundreds of miles outside the core forecast cone. While a direct hit is not anticipated for West-Central Florida, the proximity of the active watch zone means Tampa Bay residents should prepare for significant tropical moisture, rough surf, and rising coastal tides starting late Friday night.
Local emergency management officials are advising residents along the Suncoast to secure loose outdoor items, monitor local marine forecasts, and stay updated on potential localized street flooding throughout the weekend.
