A Maryland hairstylist is facing charges after she was caught on video dragging a teenage client across a salon floor, per PEOPLE.
In the video, 18-year-old Jayla Cunningham appeared to drag her young client by her hood and threw her to the ground after she allegedly tried to leave her hair appointment without paying.
“Sit right here until somebody sends it,” Cunningham said in the video, seemingly referring to the money her client owed her.
“I’m not f------ playing. You just tried to f------ run. You lucky I ain't beat the s--- out you," she continued.
The video later showed Cunningham cutting out the hair she had installed on the teenager's head.
Cunningham claimed that if she didn't drag her client back inside she wouldn't have paid for her appointment.
The teen's mom said her daughter had sent the money to the wrong account and was trying to fix the situation when she was dragged by her hood by the stylist.
“Forget trash, she ran without paying me,” Cunningham said. “I dragged her by her hood back into the salon until I could get paid or, you know, until the police come or until, you know, she let me take out the service, because it's like she literally ran outside, like she was about to be gone.”
"I feel like if I didn't do that, she would have been gone,” she added, "and I would have just never been paid.”
Cunningam is now facing charges of second-degree assault. The teen's family has also retained a lawyer to represent the young client in the case.
“It's a 15-year-old girl. We're talking about someone's child here,” attorney De'Aja Thompson said. “A child who is being dragged across a salon floor by her jacket over something as simple as a mistake.”
Cunningham's first court appearance is scheduled for April 18.
